Nandita Mukand
Picture
Nandita Mukand is a Singaporean multidisciplinary artist whose practice examines how psychological landscapes are shaped by contemporary belief systems and societal values. By repurposing everyday and industrial materials—including textile elements such as medical gauze and yarn—often in combination with nails, Mukand creates porous, biomorphic structures that give form to these inner landscapes. Her abstract paintings extend this inquiry into pictorial form. Drawing upon the ritualistic prayer practices of tying a knot to offer a prayer (mannat) she investigates the psychic impact of desire. Her site specific installation works use natural materials such as dried plants, flowers, and seeds to further probe these existential questions.

Nandita's work has been showcased at several international venues including the National Gallery Singapore, Sovereign Asian Art Prize Exhibition, Hong Kong, OpenART Biennale , Sweden, Imaginarium: To the Ends of the Earth, Singapore Art Museum. She has been awarded artist residencies by the Fundacio L’Olivar in Spain, the Hawkesbury Regional  Gallery,  Australia and the Bilpin International Ground for Creative Initiatives, Australia, all of which all of which have played a pivotal role in her research into the natural world.  She is also a two-time TEDx Speaker.

Nandita graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Goldsmiths, College of London where she received the LASALLE Award for Academic Excellence. Nandita is an alumna of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and has a degree in Electronics Engineering. In 2008, she made a transition from a corporate career to pursue her passion for art full-time.
